UPDATE FROM THE MAESTRO – June 13, 2020
Dear Pops Patrons,
I think we can all agree that this has been a year like none other we have seen nor hope to see in the future. While our state has taken steps toward a return to normal after lifting the stay-at-home order, there are still more unknowns than knowns regarding the behavior of this virus. However, the experts seem to agree that the guidelines for social distancing, masking and crowd limits are the best weapons we have in the fight against the pandemic. What they can’t tell us is how long we will have to maintain these practices in order to stay safe. This means that we are still dealing with the uncertainties that prevent us from announcing a definitive concert schedule for the 2020-2021 season.
Fortunately, we are receiving support and understanding from our loyal audience all of whom are anxious to get back to normal. The one commitment that we can safely make is that season ticket holders from the 2019-2020 season will have their seat selections secured until the time when we can safely open to the full capacity of the Performance Hall.
It is an undisputed fact the music is a powerful tool to reduce the stress of the times. To this end we are “thinking outside the box” to come up with alternative ways in which we can serve our audience. Among the possibilities are outdoor performances where the separation guidelines can be met with the added advantage of avoiding crowding in enclosed spaces. There are a number of venues in our area that could meet our needs. We are also considering temporarily reducing the size of the orchestra and perhaps an all string ensemble. Each of these ideas brings with it a host of logistical challenges and unusual expenses that we have not previously encountered.
Thus, until we are able to return to “normal”, we continue to appreciate your understanding and ongoing support through your generous contributions to the well-being of your POPS Symphony.
