Youth Focus

In Support of Our Youth

With its intention to support youth involvement in music, over the years The POPS has contributed over $150,000 to local area intermediate and high school music programs for music, instruments, and uniforms. It has also contributed a total of $8500 toward an endowment for a music scholarship through the Yavapai College Foundation. Two scholarships have been awarded so far. To encourage family and youth attendance at concerts, tickets for under 18 years of age are offered at the “at cost” price of $2. Youth musicians are encouraged to join the symphony and always comprise from 12-25% of its performing membership. Through a grant from the Acker Trust Fund, students members in 2007 were awarded a stipend for their participation. Further grants for students are being pursued.

There have been studies that clearly state that children who are exposed to arts education at a young age will in fact do markedly better in their SAT tests.”
